At Mint we’re lucky enough to have a fantastic conference policy that gives us the opportunity to go and hear from experts in our respective fields, meet our peers and sometimes even see another part of the world.
One of our favourites is Rubyconf in New Orleans. As well as being one of the best Ruby conferences out there, it takes place in one of the most amazing cities in the U.S.
Can I come?
Yes, we want to share the love and are offering one lucky person a ticket to Rubyconf. All you have to do to be in with a chance of winning is tell us in the comment section why you think we should choose you. The best/funniest answer wins. Easy.

Me. I spent all my resources this past week acquiring an Arduino and trying to interface that with a Rails API. Thus the interest in free tickets
I bought a plane ticket and made hotel reservations and then found out the conference was sold out. I’ll be the guy in the hallway trying to peek through the door of the conference room, wishing I were as cool as everyone inside. I want to be cool again.

Wow. There are so many reasons why I am the best choice to receive the ticket that it is hard to decide where to start.
First, you should know that if I win the ticket you will be blessed with good luck or, rather, the absence of bad luck. In the past when I have entered contests and not won, the places offering the contests have, for some inexplicable reason, been plagued by bad luck. I don’t know the full extent but I know they have suffered from fires, burglaries and the occasional disappearance of key employees.
Avoiding the bad luck isn’t the only reason I am the person who should receive this ticket. I don’t want to play the gender card but let’s face it, these conferences are pretty much sausage fests. Adding another girl would immensely help with the male to female ratio by doubling the number of female attendees. Plus, I will proudly wear all the Mint Digital paraphernalia that you provide so your group has the bragging rights of having a real life girl associated with them.
As well, the value of karma cannot be overstated. We all know what Stalin said about karma… that it didn’t exist. Well look where he is now. Dead. Similarly, Einstein, Napoleon and Elvis didn’t believe in Karma. That’s right, all dead (maybe not Elvis but you get the point.) By giving me this ticket, you will be blessed with good karma. No, I take that back. You will be blessed with great karma and you won’t end up like Stalin and those other guys. I guarantee it.
Finally, let me address why I should get this ticket specifically rather than other deserving people. I’m poor. I am trying to learn Ruby and think it would be a great place to meet some people to network with for when I have great ruby skills. Who knows, I could be a future employee at Mint Digital and you wouldn’t want to start our relationship off on the wrong foot, would you? I imagine the bad feelings that would engender and it would lead me to steal office supplies and eat other people’s lunches from the office fridge and I imagine neither of us wants that.
